~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
As all of you know, one of the big parts of caribou was the high robes course. Well it was a good time and we all had a blast doing it. Many people were afraid to do the rock wall or the high wires. Some people did it anyways, which it great, but others did not. My goal is to convince you, the reader, to go out and do something that you are afraid to do.
Now let me tell you about what I did to overcome my fear. When I was younger I went to a day summer camp and at that camp they had a ropes course and we would go on it almost every other day. So you might think that that would make me not afraid of heights. Unfortunately back then I was so afraid to do anything that I would almost never do any of the challenges at the ropes course so my fear never went away. This fear carried with me all throughout my life and whenever I would have to go on a ropes course I would not do all the challenges and be reluctant to even do some of the easy ones. So going into this trip I expected myself to do the same thing as always and just do one or two of the easiest challenges, but for some reason I just did not think about my fear and just overcame it and did all the challenges that I could. Now the fear did not go away, it still is part of my life but I have learned to not think about it and just to do anything and everything that I can, even if I am afraid. At the end of the trip I felt so good about myself and I thought that all of the challenges that I did were awesome, rewarding and fun.
So my plead to you is to try something that you are afraid and just do think about your fear; just put one foot in front of the other figuratively and literally; Just think step by step and don't look down.
