When people get frustrated, then get angry. When people get angry, they fight people on the other team. When people fight the other team, they get thrown out. When people get thrown out, we have less players. When we have less players, we lose.
Since my hockey season started, almost three weeks ago, we have yet to win a game and we have only scored one goal. After the game today we are 0 and 4 to start the season. Some of you might just say that we are bad but we have a deeper frustration that is getting in the head of all of are players.
From the start were missing some players due to a broken wrist and many other injuries. So we only had a little more than two full lines of players and this is pushing the lower limits of the amount of players we need to play. To add to this, in the first game one of are players broke his collarbone so he is out for the season. So going into this weekend we were not sure what we were going to do but one player that could not make it for the first two games came to this one. Unfortunately this only brings us back up to two lines for another player could not make it to the game. In the first period of the game we played well and were out playing the other team and we were up by a goal, but just at the beginning of the second period a defenseman made one of the best hits I have ever seen. We thought it was a good, clean hit but the ref's said that it was a misconduct and threw him out of the game. If you thought that was not enough, a second defensemen hurt his wrist so he was out of the game. This meant the we were down a significant amount of players and this ultimately made us get tired out and we lost the game.
In the second game of the weekend we were missing 2 players from the game the day before as mentioned above. Again to nobody's surprise we went up in the first period and we got tired because of a short bench. As you probably realised from the beginning of this story, two people on my team started a fight with the other team. Now what the other team was doing is worthy of starting a fight if starting a fight was ever excused. Both of these players got thrown out of the game and got suspended for the next game. With the short bench we can not afford to lose more players so we lost that game and this puts us in a extremely tough position for the next game. And that is the exact reason why we got frustrated in the beginning.
I hope that you read all the way though my rant about hockey games and if you could take one piece of advice from this it is that getting frustrated will do nothing for your cause and it will only hurt it. Just keep a level head an move on.
