If you look into the difference between them and most big stores you can break it up into five different aspects or steps that they do to win you over as the costumer. Number one, Unlike most retail stores that have aisles that are serrated into different categories of items. Ikea divides the store into section like most stores but they have walls which all the product are against and they lead you through the store and the sections in a snake like pattern. What this is doing is making you to look at all of the items so even if you go in there knowing what you want you will most likely buy something else. The second step is that have a cafeteria there that has good food so you can come after lunch and stay to dinner. This just makes it so you spend more time at the store and it makes it more convenient to fit into a day so people will go more often. Once you finish looking at the products you get lead into the warehouse. There you have to pick up the bigger items in the warehouse and put them in a cart yourself. This saves them time and money by not paying people to get the items in the back of the store, and instead of them having to move the items from the warehouse and putting them in the showrooms they just have you pick them up from the warehouse. The forth and possible the most important step is when you get home and open the package. If any of you have ever bought anything form Ikea there is a 75% chance that you had to build it. This saves them money because it is easier to ship the package and instead of them paying workers to put together the item you, the consumer, are doing it. The last final step benefits both the consumer and the seller. This is the biggest factor that makes Ikea so popular, it is the price. The prices at Ikea are so much lower than the competitors. The reason why the prices are so low is because of all the steps mentioned above makes them spend less money so they can make the products cheaper which in turn makes you want to buy the product more which in the end helps them more.
