Have any of you heard someone say "Would you rather be the best player on the worst team or the worst player on the best team", Most of the time it is just something to think about, but this fall I had to actually make that decision. After the tryouts for varsity soccer were over. Mr. Star. told me that we wanted to talk to me sometimes, and if you have ever been in a tryout you know that when the coach wants to talk to you it is most likely not good. When I got into his office he told me that I had a choice, I could play on varsity soccer and maybe not play as much or I could play on J.V. and be the star player. I almost Immediately decided that I wanted to play on varsity. Some of you might be thinking that I should have played on J.V. so I could play more to get better, but I would say the opposite has happened. In the beginning of the season I did not play much and you could tell that I was one of the worse players, but in practice I worked hard and with the help of all of the coaches and all of the better players I got to play with, I got better. Every day I got better. This showed in the games when I would play more and I would be able to keep up with the better players on the team and make an impact on the game. Did I make mistakes, yes, but the coaches and the players helped me fix them. Now almost a month in I play almost as much as other players around me and I don't feel like that other kid that is not really a part of the team but feel like I contribute to every win in some way. I have enjoyed improving for one month and I look forward to the next with the team.
